As kids, you are the future leaders of the world and you have the opportunity to make a real difference by thinking about how you use the earth's resources. You can form habits that will help you to save water, which will help to save the earth and cut down on your parents' water bill.
Turn It Off
When you are at the sink, make sure to turn the water off anytime you are not using it. If you are washing your hands, you can turn the water off while you use the soap. When brushing your teeth, keep the water off until it is time to rinse out your mouth. Only using water when you really need it will reduce water usage by several gallons and make a huge impact over a long time.
Flush Carefully
Ask your parents if it is okay to wait until morning to flush the toilet. Reducing how often your toilet is flushed will save a lot of water. You can also ask your parents if your toilet is the kind that saves water when it flushes.
Showers and Baths
When you shower or bathe, use only the water that you need. Keep showers under five minutes and turn the water off while you are washing your body. You can turn the water back on to rinse off before you step out of the shower. If you take baths, you don't have to fill it up all the way in order to get clean. Tell your parents that you are trying to save water and turn off the water once you have enough in the tub to wash and rinse.
Outside
When you are outside playing, try to avoid using sprinklers because they use a lot of water. If you want to play in the water outside, ask your parents about getting a small kid's pool and fill it with only two or three inches of water--just enough to have fun with. This way, you can enjoy playing with water outdoors without wasting water.
